Who this workshop is for

A Starting Point for Understanding Your Next Steps

Second Saturday is for women who are considering divorce, currently going through one, or simply want to understand the process before making any decisions. You don't need to have filed. You don't need to have decided. You just need questions.

You're considering divorce and don't know where to begin.

You're already in the process and have financial questions.

You want to better understand the decisions that may be ahead.

You want perspectives from professionals who work with divorce-related issues every day.

What you'll learn

Understand the Financial, Legal and Emotional Sides of Divorce

Divorce involves more than dividing assets. In one afternoon, three professionals walk through what tends to come up, so you know which questions are worth asking before decisions get made.

Financial Considerations

How a household's finances get untangled, and what that can mean for the years ahead.

Assets, the house, and retirement accounts

Budgeting for one household instead of two

Tax considerations that surface when assets change hands

Planning for the financial transition after settlement

Legal Considerations

What the divorce process looks like in California, step by step, from someone who practices it.

An overview of the process and the options for resolving it

Questions to consider before you file

When professional legal guidance may be appropriate

Emotional Considerations

Understanding the personal transition, for you and for your family.

Family dynamics during and after divorce

Coping strategies for the harder days

Resources and support that can help

Second Saturday is educational. We share information and perspective; we don't give individual financial, legal, or tax advice during the workshop.

Three Perspectives, One Afternoon

Each Second Saturday Workshop brings together a family law attorney, a financial professional, and a mental health professional, so your questions get answered by people who work with divorce every day. Mark is there every month. Our family law attorneys and mental health professionals take turns, so one of each presents at every workshop.

Common Questions We Hear

The questions we hear most from women thinking about attending. If yours isn't here, email [email protected].

Do I need to have filed for divorce to attend?

No. Many attendees haven't filed and some never will. The workshop is designed to help you understand the process and the questions worth asking, whatever you decide.

Can I attend if I'm only considering divorce?

Yes, and that's often the best time to come. Understanding the financial, legal, and emotional considerations before decisions are made tends to make those decisions clearer.

Is this workshop only about finances?

No. Three professionals present: a family law attorney covers the legal process, Mark covers the financial considerations, and a therapist covers the emotional and family side. Each gets roughly equal time.

Will I receive individual financial or legal advice?

No. Second Saturday is educational. The presenters share general information and answer questions in a group setting, but nothing in the workshop is personalized investment, tax, or legal advice. If you'd like individual guidance afterward, the presenters can point you toward next steps.

How much does the workshop cost?

$20, paid when you register online. That covers the full three-hour workshop. There's nothing else to buy and no obligation of any kind afterward.

What happens after I register?

You'll get a confirmation email and calendar invite right away, a short preparation note a few days before, and a reminder the day before with the Zoom link / address. After the workshop, we'll send a recap with resources from the presenters.

You Don't Have to Figure Out Everything On Your Own

Divorce asks you to make important decisions at a time when it's hard to think clearly. Getting informed first, in a calm room with people who do this work every day, is a steadying place to start.
